Is there anyway to hook up a car subwoofer (Ascendant) to my home receiver when it just has a mono plug? Or do I need to buy one from a store that has a built-in amp?

I listen to alot of metal. Are these speakers a bad choice? I have approx. 100w to each from a Hifonics amp and Alpine HU. The speakers seem overly bright. Would I benefit from a better set of components and perhaps an additional set of midbass drivers?

I have a set of CDT CL 6.5 components with a Hifonics amp (100x2), Alpine HU and Knu wiring. Im still learning how to properly tune stuff and I am going to do the 'multimeter method' of tuning it. Is the amp going to be a major issue in terms of quality or should I start looking for better...
