Big 3?

So this Sunday my buddy will be installing my 390 amp alternator for my car (2012 nissan altima 3.5) i was curious if plan on doing a big 3 upgrade but won't be for a week or 2 maybe even more because I'll be on vacation. Will my car be fine? At max a month or 2?

I think you'll be good for 3 days as long you don't fire up the stereo. If you start trying to draw major amps thru the stock 8awg wiring, you will have a wire fire on your hands.

Cool. Just don't want to see a car go up in flames.
Me neither. The plan is to get the alternator installed on Monday then hopefully get my car back on Monday then take up there to the stero shop on Monday or Tuesday (depending on the time I get my car back) I appreciate ill keep the subs off and mid ranges low

What are you powering that requires a 390-amp alternator and big 3 upgrade? Just curious. Thanks.

I didn't have the time to read every post, so forgive me if I repeat what has already been said.

Adding a bigger alternator will not harm your electrical system. Your voltage is not changing. It's just the amperage supply that is changing. You can add a 1000 amp alternator to a car, and as long as it's still supplying no more than 14.4 volts, you'll be just fine. An alternator's amp output is just a supply, meaning it will only supply the amperage needed up to that rated amperage. Your electronics are not in danger. You can run your car for the rest of it's life without doing the big-3. However, If you are referring to your audio system needing that extra amperage, then you would only need the big-3 for your system, but only if you plan of cranking the system past the limits of the wire.

I apologize if I don't make any sense. Maybe I should have Mitchell explain it for me. LOL....
