Hello All,

Looking to install a sub (or two) in my car (have 4-4.5 cubic feet). Limited by height of trunk opening. It's a 2013 Mustang coupe so I think max height of box is like 11 inches (39x22.5x11), unless someone with a 2011-2014 coupe has been able to fit a bigger/taller box.

edit :- was able to fit below boxes
25.75 x 13 x 15.75 sterlite box with a lid easily as well

30x24x10 ..i think 24 would be too close to the back if subs facing the back, 22 or 22.5 will be good ..height can go up by an inch

40x13x7

Type of Music I listen to :-

Kardinal Offishall - Smash The Club ft. Pitbull, Lil Jon, & Clinton Sparks :-

Gabru :-

DJ Snake Turn Down for What :-

Punjabi Her Eyes :-

Looking for tight, solid, clean, punchy bass. A good mix of SPL and SQ is what I am looking for.

Stock shaker 500 head unit. Will install lc2i to get a clear signal for the subs.

135amp stock alternator in the car, so I think I can go to a max of 1500w rms, but to be safe let's keep it to 1200w rms.

budget is $450 for sub(s), $300 for amp. We need NOT max out the budget if I can have what i need for less. not brand loyal, just like value for money stuff aka a good balance of money spent and quality.

Box is "also" important or should I say the MOST important piece here, and maybe I can DIY the box as I already learned a bit of hornresp and now learning winisd and have a local cabinet builder build it or get a design from someone. Hopefully $250-300 is a good budget for the box

wiring, lc2i, install etc is not included in the $1000-$1100 budget for the box, sub and amp....have a separate budget for that.

what setup would you go with? subs, amp, tuning frequency, sealed or ported or t-line?

Thanks a lot for reading and have a good weekend.

Tons of sub+box packages over at Designer Motorsports. Also amplifiers, wiring etc.. Brands like American Bass, SSA, Audiopipe, DB Drive, Massive Audio, Pioneer and others. There's a good chance that you will need a custom box built if you're trying to maximize the space. If you need help I can assist. There's also a couple Custom Box Builder references on the site as well.

Look for subs that will work in a box that will fit your car.

Look for subs that don't require (or handle) more watts than your amplifier will provide.

Narrow your selection to subs that are more efficient.

That's most of the struggle. Fulfill those criteria and you are well on your way.

Idk but that ^^^ almost looks like a tline type footprint to me, with those dimensions maybe for a pair of 6.5's.

I haven't used Hornsrep in years and now probably can't even use the program, that said I am familiar with the design of Tlines and know a few tricks.
I'm going to see if I can render one in Sketchup that'll be punchy with good extension and output for my today project in that footprint I quoted above.

Maybe for a pair of these...

While not being "perfect" candidates for a Tline, a Tline is generally the perfect enclosure for most subs. I know how these little beasts perform at lower frequencies so clearances should be the biggest problem designing.

Without driving myself nutso relearning Hornsrep I took a stab at something that may go in the 7"h x 40"w x 13"d footprint Op listed as one of his space options. Without actually modeling it up but knowing what criteria to use or avoid I came up with this little creation. It should extend at least an octave under tuning in car and with the line area I used along with a few tricks it should be snappy with very low output limitations.

Those lil' beasts have 6.8" mounting depth so I had to adjust my thinking during designing... lol.

I guess I exceeded my replies conversating....

Op... here goes...

No no winisd when Tline is wanted, new guy here.

Ai is the road to... haha. You're smarter than Ai it just pulls down results faster. Use your maths, what you think is probably what it is after all... own your ground.

I'm not going to cut up a CscStang design bro, you liked it and eventually things happened... I get it. Tuning and usage may have been the reason is what I'm thinking. Small subs have limits after all, understand tuning/levels/filters and me thinks you got this.

I think you got this... testing is the only way to learn anyway

NVX has really high quality equipment at a really good price. I would recommend 2-10" speakers in a ported wedge-shaped box. Face the sub and port backwards. Also, remove all the sound padding on the rear deck and put baffles over the rear deck speakers. The baffles will protect the speakers from the pressure of the subs.

Wire the subs up for 2 ohms.
