Trimming HU frame to fit

I just installed an Alpine CDA-7894 in my '95 Camry, and I'm down to fit and finish issues. One of these is that because the trim around the climate control console is not flush, I can't fit the plastic frame that came with the HU fully into place. The bottom slides in and clips with no problems. The top is blocked by the non-flush trim.

Is there a good/easy/reliable way to trim this plastic piece to fit?

Thanks,

No problem. The Dayton ultimax is one of the better sounding sealed subs I’ve heard. I kinda want to try the 18 in my ride.
