Well, I didn't begin the "labor" work yet and I'm not sure if this is the forum for worklogs but I've seen a worklog here before so I'll just post.

I have a 1996 Chrysler LHS with Infinity system... it's a pretty nice car. I'm only 15 years old with a learner's permit license, this car was given to me as a hand-me-down. My reason for working on it now is so that I can enjoy the stereo (I always like to go in the car and listen to music in the driveway rather then sit in a chair and listen to crappy home audio) and so when I can drive I'll enjoy it. I develop websites so I'm paying for my stuff that way.

Stuff purchased to date:

2 x Diamond Audio D5600.2 amplifiers, purchased from bimma; great guy

Orion 1200D amplifier

Pioneer TSD690R 6"x9" rear-deck speakers

2 x Alpine SWR-1242D 12" subwoofer

Phoenix Gold 5-1/4" Xenon 5.0 component speakers for front door

Apple Mac mini G4 $599 model (carputer!)

M-Audio Audiophile Firewire Soundcard (pre-amp from computer)

Lilliput 7" touchscreen monitor for carputer

Griffin Radioshark (AM/FM tuner for the carputer)

thx for the kind words man, lemme know what you think about the lilliput. I am pretty sure I'm gonna be doing a carputer next year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. Some decent equiptment for being 15 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Oh and once ya get some scrill, do a lil something with your home stereo. Then ya wont have to go outside //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. oh and

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/needpics.gif.edd6d28e76618c28c46f343991bcced5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You deserve 'em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm sure the amps will be perfect (Dylan loves his)! Only reason my home system isn't booming is because I can't afford to soundproof my room, haha- my parents would kill me if they heard the amount of bass that satisfies my ears.

I'll get some pics soon! Here's one angle of the car (not cleaned or anything):

1. take off those god awful mudflaps

2. remove the little restrictor in the air hose ( bendy part) if you havent already.

3. my dad has a 1997 concorde, basically the same car.

cant change out the speakers because they are amped and are 2ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So right now, your car is better than mine in the audio department.

The stock stereo isnt that bad. 5 band EQ and enough bass for most people

But im not most people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

P.S

check out http://www.allpar.com for everything you ever wanted to know about that car.

Man, you should be really happy to have what you have at 15!!! That's incredible man. I'm older and just wish I could afford some of that stuff.

But yeah, can't wait to see the worklog going... You got some nice gear to start. And i'm sure things will only get better as you go.

I've been waiting to see a Mac Mini as a carputer; Should work out well for you, many Linux distros will run on the PowerPC architecture;

Depending on your goals with it, it'll either suit you well, or not at all;

If you want some serious custom things goin' on, it's not the best option, as there are a lack of connectors for things like Serial LCDs, Temp-Sensors, etc.

But, if you're just gonna slap a keyboard and monitor on it and use it as an MP3 player, you should be in business!

Enjoy, and please post updates as it progresses //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you need any technical information on the Mini, LMK.

Wow, thanks for the replies guys. I'm actually a daily Mac user- it's best for TV Production class and for graphics (remember I said I do websites?) Muds flaps are going, I'm gonna eventually put 20" rims on them, should bring positive attention to the car. Not many people like it, but when I'm done with it people are going to wish they never talked crap about my car!

supa: Where is it located? The stock bass is RIDICULOUS for a stock system, never heard anything so boomy in a system that hasn't been touched... but it's still not enough for me! In South Florida, we're all about who's bass does the most ear damage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Thanks for the link.

Cybe: The soundcard allows in and outs, and there are serial to USB adapters... I just have to find good applications to do what I want done. I own VirtualPC, so I can emulate a PC fairly easy for GPS-related applications if needed.

Jay: nice car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

so ur petty much sayin "back then hoes didnt want me, know im hot hoes all on me, MIKE JONES!"

Good luck with the audio install and keep us posted (with pics, of course)

From the list of gear it oughta sound pretty tight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Thanks Prowler! This weekend will be MY weekend! My Orion will be here tomorrow, the subs shipped today, the DA amps will be here Friday, the rear-deck speakers should've been shipped today.. ahh!

I also need an XM PCR for XM radio on my Mac. Jay, have you noticed the FM tuner in the car *****? I guess it's because I have no antenna. What's the exact model of your headlights (will they work with LHS?) they look awesome. The mud flaps are going off in a minute, haha... it's just a few phillips head screws.

Its in the flex part of the hose.

you gotta take it off and pop it out with a screwdriver. Basically a HP robber and makes the car quieter. It sounds real mean at 3k+ RPM's

I was ridin to work today, had the rear view vibrating off the bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So with it the car is quieter... why would I remove it?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I'm pretty sad now, my dad (he's been doing car stereos for a large part of his life, doesn't now but was offering to do mine free) was my installer and now he's saying he'll give me his head unit for free just to not have to do the Mac mini install. The LHS would need a lot of fabrication for this computer, and nor him or I are able to do it- and I can't really afford to pay anyone to do it for me. So my 7" touchscreen LCD, my Griffin RadioShark AM/FM USB tuner and my self-powered Firewire soundcard need to be sold... sigh. I'll post in for sale. Any head unit recommendations with MP3/Sirius/iPod (needs to be good integration, I've heard of slow interfaces with thousands of songs)?
