how many of you use a separate equalizer?

So should I throw an EQ on it? What do you recommend?
Adding an Eq will not solve your problems, it may add to your problems though. Aside from just changing the H/U and replacing it with an SQ oriented design your best option would be a DSP, there are even mini-DSP's you can integrate into the system. Adding a DSP is not the correct way to solve your audio problem but it is A WAY to solve, personally i would swap out the H/U long before i added any signal processing. Start with a clean signal that doesn't require significant decompression...
