Hey all,

I just put a new battery in my truck and I noticed my amp (MTX Audio Thunder 421D, ~5 years old) would not start. I checked the fuses and remote wire and everything looked good. Voltmeter showed that my amp was getting 12.5V of power. Removed the amp to find a wire fried and a burned smell.

Picture below

Is this something that can be fixed cheaply or do I have to buy a new amp?

Thanks

i concur... the power supply is toast. but the outputs could be shorted , thus causing the power supply to go poof....

it could be an easy fix. or it could be bad all together. .. really wouldnt know without having it in front of me..

Thanks for all the help and offers guys. After thinking about it, i recently bought a new amp (MTX TD500.1D) and have ran into another problem. Ugh

The amp now turns on, but does not power the single subwoofer. I'm thinking one possible issue is the speaker wire connection from the sub to the amp. I noticed on my last amp, it only had this type of connection--> (+)(-) for speaker 1 , but this new amp has (+)(+) l (-)(-) for the speaker connections. As there is only two wires (pos and neg) running from the sub, how can I split it into 4 connections? Or is this even necessary to make it work? This picture in the manual shows the positive wire and negative wire being split into fours.

I tried my best to explain it w/o visuals, but can provide pics if need be.

Thanks!!!
