Wow, about time! Look like it puts out alot of power too, so that's great.

No real "tested" advice on the optimal voltage, but 14.5 should be more than plenty high. Could like drop to 14 flat even.

Sounds like your regulator/rectifier is messed up. If you ran it for any period of time without a battery hooked up, it will burn up the diode packs in the alt in short order due to current overload. Alternators are meant to generate current, not store it.

Sort of like your kidneys generate **** and your bladder stores it for a very short period, but must be put into the toilet ASAP or your bladder busts. Your bladder would be the regulator. Same concept.

This will actually remain a mystery forever!... We will know more about the far reaches of space then what was wrong with this alternator because mechman couldn't figure it out either. They just kept throwing parts at it until they had pretty much replaced everything.

Then they held their breath and threw it in a box in the hopes that it would work in my truck.
