Just found this by accident, and thought it was pretty cool:

You could just run two 12v batteries in series. Are there any amps that are 24v stable? I know some Koreans are 18v stable and there are extremely high voltage amps. I didn't know if anything would be happy on a 24v system

I doubt it, im pretty sure those 24v alts are used for military vehicles or emergency vehicles with equipment designed for high voltage. I found information on it when I was looking up the gm frame rail battery mount

Ok, I saw that military and armored vehicles for the president had 28v alternators.

DC power alternators built this, so I think they intended it for car audio. Could have made it for military/government use though. They didn't specify in the article

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a 28v alt modified for 24v but you're right most are 28v, many of the large unmanned aircraft systems we study use 28v but now that I'm thinking about it they charge at 32v or so. That makes me unsure they could just step up the voltage regulator. Maybe there's some systems that run off 24v, really not a conmon thing though obviously

I work a whole lot with 24v alts (48v alts exist too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif ) They are mostly used for military use (jammers and such).
