i have a 98 escort with a full custom rear end, springs, struts, bushings and everything. i ran about 500 lbs and the car cried.

If the box is tuned to 50, you're probably peaking around like 55-60 right? That's probably quite a bit above that sub's Fs. I'd try messing around with the tuning. On top of that, I bet your vehicle's Fs is alot lower than that too. Lowering the tuning so it peaks nearer to the vehicle's and sub's Fs could pick up a little dB and sound a **** load nicer to the ear.
