wow my brother got his new bmw m3 2004 the other day today he got a w7 12" with a jl 500 rms amp in a ported box that thing pounds! it is crazy..i told him to get a xxx or an mt but he decided to get the jl ..i dont know why ...but if the xxx or mt are louder than the jl thats insane how does the xxx compare to the jlw7? because im debaiting on weather to get 2 jlw7s or 2 xxxs im not getting them anytime soon but i was just wondering. the w7 has great sound quality how does the xxx compare? and witch hits higher dbs? thanks

True its mostly install but , imo ive heard the W7 and i wasnt that impressed . I havent had teh chance to listen to a XXX just yet , but for the price to quality and output from reliable sources i'd go XXX all the way screw a W7 JL makes good products but the W7 is a bit overrated.

Well a XXX has a flatter BL Curve, so in theory it will put out less distortion. It also has (slightly) more excursion.

Raw Xmag, yes, usable Xmag, no. The W7 has a Xsus that is a good 13-18mm ahead of the XXX, depending on which model W7 you're talking about.

In terms of distortion, the two are very close, but I'd say the edge actually goes to the W7, rather than the other way around.

The 10w7 outdisplaces the 10 XXX, the 12w7 outdisplaces the 12 XXX, and the 13w7 and 15 XXX have roughly the same Vd.

Overall, they are both very capable drivers. The W7 offers a tiny bit more output and performance, but costs considerably more for it.

In terms of value, I'd definitely say the XXX though.

if that w7 was on a 1000/1 you'd be more impressed.MT's are SPL subs,they would crush w7's but not sound anywhere as good.They do sound decent though. XXX's are the way to go for most people,because you can literally buy 2 for the price of a w7.i'm going with a 18 xxx myself.jl's do slam but they are overated and overpriced.

You'll hear people say the XXX is louder or sounds better.

You'll hear people say the W7 is louder or sounds better.

In all actuality, coming from someone who has heard both subs in both SPL and SQ setups, and seeing what they are capable of in both, it's truly a flip of the coin and completely install dependant. Overall, to me, the W7 is the better sub (and it should be, completely custom tooled unit), but the XXX is the better value. You know you like the W7 so stay with that if you're happy. If you want to buy on faith, you can trust that the XXX is a sweet sub that will be an awesome performer as well.

wow a 12w7 powered by a 500 watt jl amp and it slammed that hard? i currently have a 10w7 powered by the jl 500/1 and im looking for more bass without upgrading the amp. will the 12w7 sound A LOT different than my current setup?

I was wondering... If the cone area of a 13w7 is about the size of a regular 15" sub, doesnt that mean the 12w7 has more cone area than a regular 12"? And same with the 10W7 with compared to a regular 10"? So if everone compares a 13W7 to a 15" sub, isnt that kind of unfair then to compare a 12W7 to a 12" sub?

Why do you say the W7 has less distortion? Ive seen the BL graphs, its not a big difference, but the XXX (and Brahma actually) were flatter.

Also, Ive read that the W7 suffers a loss in sensitiveity over the Xbl^2 drivers, due to its design charateristics that make it 'BL optimized'. Comments?
