The UN security council is showing more and more than it is nothing more than a goverment funded debating society. Case and point would be the Oil for Food fiasco, where Saddam was providing oil kick-backs to high ranking goverment officials, while his people starved. Among the recipients were Kofi Annan's son, and the assistant to the French prime minister. The only conflicts for which the UN has ever given approval for in it's history are all US based. Korea was one, Gulf war, and another I cannot remember, perhaps Vietnam. It's important to remember that other countries like France Russia and Germany have all taken previous military action aganst other countries without approval or backing of the UN at some point during the organizations existance.</p></blockquote><p></p>
