[QUOTE="hispls, post: 8712770, member: 614752"] Alpine Type R has been known solid for ages. The subs can get loud and the components sound really nice. The type R can hang with a lot of far more expensive brand name stuff. Type X is even better but very spendy. The issue you'll have here is that a lot of the DIY crowd buys gear from companies that are one guy in a garage selling cookie cutter stuff from China with their name brand on it. Depending what you're after and if you do not need to rely on brick and mortar service or support they're getting a lot more bang for their buck. On the other side you have the snobophiles who will scorn you if you're not paying at least a buck a watt for power and run esoteric boutique brands with outrageous price tags and a head unit with a copper chasis. Anyway, like I said before, if you can put in your favorite CD and it puts a smile on your face you're doing it right and it sounds like the guys at your local shop will look out for you if anything ever happens so there's definitely value there. You bought good equipment that you can expect to last a long time and perform well along the way. If you're happy don't change anything. Ported box would give you the equivalent of about 1 more click on the volume knob more output and possibly a bit more low extension but if your music sounds good now best leave well enough alone.
