[QUOTE="BassAddictJ, post: 915892, member: 560415"] dispite the fact i have researched, and know that a clipping amp can still damage a sub even though the sub is being under powered (400w below rms)..... i am an ******* and i effed up my xxx15 that just got reconed because i liked how it sounded with the gain up 80%. the subs SQ is so nice that any distortion that was coming through as a result of the clipping was barely noticable since the bass was just still clean sounding but it just pounded WAY harder with the gains up. I know some of you guys are going to want to flame me really bad but believe me i learned my lesson and i learned it the hard exspensive way. when you have a sub that you buy used and have reconed and in the end have invested almost enough to where u can buy a brand new one, AND THEN EFF UP THE SUB AGAIN, you start to guilt trip yourself and not be able to sleep well at night as a result. LESSON LEARNED what is sounds liek is that the dustcap has detached slighty and when the bas sbooms hard it claps against the cone behind it to make this god awful slapping noise. it COULD be the VC hitting the motor structure but im not sure. i know the VC are not fried since it still sounds good at medium and low volumes. it only does that when i turn the sub up loud but it still sounds sexy and beautiful at lowwer volumes. either way it looks like im gonna have to send it back to RE. again, $194 reconed shipped there and back from FL, again.......FNM#* DH*)#HDR#BRB@#)(R but i as well noticed something....theoretically when the amp is clipping it is still producing more power ( i did get a reading of 45volts AC out of the orion 1200d on my 1 ohm configured sub, granted resistance changed while the sub fires but still we can guesstimate that there was more than 1200w comeing out of the amp when cranked to it's back breaking max) and i feel that after hearing the sub with the high gains an theoretical higher watts, as well as hearing it on a lanzar 1800d, i feel the XXX has more potential and needs more power than 1200wrms to hit those higher dB's and still sound sweet (granted the install is optimal) i have the orion 1200d and i'd love an orion 2500d but my *** is PPOOOORRRR so im leaning towards a PA a3000bd or KOLE QX1-3000D(seems to me like the EXACT SAME AMP exept 20 bucks cheaper) or a viper 2500d if i can find a refurb for cheap since they are close to the same as an orion 2500d...... that OR get my XXX reconed to quad 2 ohm VC and add another orion 1200d so i can either master/slave at 2 ohms and burp strapped orions at 5.ohm for comps....??
