Head unit is a Pioneer P3700MP First of all, I am not sure if I am diagnosing this correctly. I posted in the amplifier section at first because I thought it was an amp problem but I now think it is a head unit problem. I am unable to get an decent amount of voltage (sqrt(500watts*2ohms)=31.6volts) out of the amplifier without using bass boost. So this lead me to believe that the signal going into the amplifier was too low. I checked the voltages of the rca's going out of the head unit and they were in fact very low. I used my digital multimeter with the following settings V~ and 200 (its a Sperry multimeter) The output was .8 volts with the head unit's volume ALL the way up to 62 volume. I had the gains on the monoblock set to 31.6 volts when the head unit displays 35 volume. In order to get this, I had to turn bass boost all the way up. Now, I reset the gains so that it displayed a similar voltage but with bass boost off and it required the volume to be really really high (Gain knob 80% of the way up both times, volume on head unit around 50). Its hard to describe all of this, but basically I think the head unit isnt putting out any output voltage on the rca's. Any tips? Did I describe this correctly. I don't want to go back to what I had because I hate the idea of using bass boost distorting my bass sound quality. If I just run the head unit with all the gains calibrated to a really high volume number, my amp feels like its going to melt.
