i won something on ebay for 122 plus 15 for shipping. so i deposit 140 into my checking account to pay for it. i go on paypal and see that it asks for 147 because of 8.25% tax in california.. is this normal????? since when did paypal start charging tax? or ebay???

Perhaps the seller added sales tax?

eBay charges taxes if you're in the same state as the seller.

PayPal doesn't charge sales tax and as far as I know neither does eBay.

You are supposed to pay sales taxes on all purchases whether they be online or not and most Power Sellers will collect sales tax on purchases made from a buyer in their own state.

It's pretty clearly stated in almost all listings (hence the suggestion by eBay to read all listings in their entirety carefully)

its the sellers choice to add tax

he obviously added the tax in after the auction ended

like if he sent you an invoice, theres an option to include tax without it being listed on the auction.
