I swam in it..we avoided the major commercial centers (spent only a few hours in Tel Aviv, and in Jerusalem spent time really only in the Old City.  My favourite part was either climbing through unexcavated Maccabean caves, untouched for the past 2500 years, or hiking through the golan Heights in the northern tip of the coutry, through virtual desert, hiking downhill for 10 minutes and coming across a veritable oasis in teh desert.  A waterfall in the middle fo the desert... very cool.</blockquote>
