Statistics and modern medicine will tell you that the chances of Magglio rebounding at ages 36 and 37 are not likely. If Magglio did not have a vesting option in his contract, I would not cut him and let him walk at the end of the season. The fact is, he is 35, and his production has dropped severely. It's so bad that Adam Everette has a higher slugging and OPS than Magglio. He has shown decreased range on the OF and is pulled regularly for a defensive replacement. Any logical person can deduce that this sudden decline is brought on by age. Now we add the fact he is becoming a below average defender and will be a DH, but the Tigers already have an aging, below average DH type in Guillen. The Tigers would have to owe these two players 54 million over the next two seasons, plus the bad contracts given to Willis and Robertson. Detroit needs to cut Magglio this year and absorb the loss for this season and free up 15 million. Magglio hasn't struggled just this season, but during spring training and the WBC. Magglio has shown no signs of coming through. No I wouldn't and I didn't when Verlander slumped last year. Magglio's slump is going on 40 games including the WBC. Verlander had the bad start against Toronto giving up 8 runs in 3 innings. He had a good start in Seattle except for the 5th inning in which he gave up 5 runs in that inning. Since then he has been fantastic. He leads the majors in strikeouts, has a great K/BB ratio, good WHIP, and has seemed to learn how to pitch and not throw. The book I was thinking of was Tuck Everlasting. It's meant for elementary age students so you maybe able to comprehend it. That is what the statistics show I in fact love the job Mayhew is doing so far. LOL. Talk about again. When was the last time the Cavs won? 2004 was years and years ago? I'm sorry we have to go back so many years to find a Cleveland championship.
