MLB: Reds' Dunn swings back at Ricciardi Posted: June 19, 2008, 1:35 PM by Jeremy Sandler GTA, Baseball, MLB Adam Dunn's free-swinging ways evidently are not limited to the baseball diamond. The Cincinnati Reds outfielder let fly at Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi on Thursday for comments Ricciardi made on his radio show Wednesday night. "I know nothing about this clown. I have no idea who he is," Dunn told reporters in Cincinnati on Thursday. "I don't really care what one guy thinks, to be honest with you. If I'm a GM, I don't know if I would go out of my way to kind of discredit a player. "It [ticks] me off to be honest with you. He doesn't even know me. If he knew me, fine, say what you want. This guy doesn't know anything about me other than what he sees on whatever SportsCenter they have up there. That's it." Ricciardi trashed Dunn while responding to callers who suggested the 28 year old might boost Toronto's struggling and power-deprived offence. Dunn has hit 40 or more home runs in each of the last four seasons, although he has also struck out at least 165 times each year. "Do you know the guy doesn't really like baseball that much?" Ricciardi said, when asked about trading for Dunn. "Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player? "There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason why you're not attracted to some players. I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here ... "We've done our homework on guys like Adam Dunn and there's a reason why we don't want Adam Dunn. I don't want to get into specifics." Dunn and the Reds will visit Toronto for a three-game inter-league series beginning next Tuesday, but the outfielder said Ricciardi's comments would not put him in vendetta mode. "The players didn't say anything," said Dunn. "It was some clown sitting in the front office pushing paper." Dunn did suggest he was not likely to join the Blue Jays if he does leave the Reds in a trade or as a free agent. "If anything happens, I ain't going to Toronto," Dunn said. "I can eliminate one team. I'm not converting my dollars to loonies and toonies just yet."
