I'm looking to make a fiberglass subwoofer box in the spare tire area of my 2004 Forester (I have a non-stock tire size so I can't use the spare anyway). There's about 3 cubic feet of space in the box. Originally, I had planned to use my old Alpine Type R 10" (SWR-1043D) in that area and make a ported box. I would glass the bottom, use MDF on the top, and use PVC to make an aeroport that is correct for 1.5 ft^3, and glass in pieces of wood until that volume is achieved in the spare tire area. As I continue to think about this, the more I'm thinking it'll be easier to build an enclosure for a sealed sub or two, rather than what I'm trying to do now. Mostly I listen to rock and metal, but I do like to listen to trap and other music that digs low. My last car had a Sundown SA-12 in a two cubic foot box at 32 Hz, and I was fairly happy with that setup. I prefer the sound of sealed, but I have never heard a setup that digs low very well. So, that being said, are there any good subs that are less than 6" mounting depth that can dig deep in a sealed box? Or should I try to make the ported box I was thinking of?
