I guess I'll come off sounding like the old fart so, I'll just own it. When I started in car audio back in the day Orion 2100 HCCA amps were around $1300-$1400. They were good for around 1200 watts...when powered by a small .5 ohm stable nuclear reactor. Now, fast forward to 2013 and people are complaining about having to pay $250 for a 2000 watt amp. But, then you'll say "these are class D amps and the engineering s much better today". Is it? Let me ask you this...in 20 years will people have the same high opinions of Shark, VVME and Audiopipe as they continue to have of old school Orion? After all, there is something to be said for quality over cheap. For the past 20 years, consumers have been demanding cheaper and cheaper products that are "OK" in quality and they want it RIGHT NOW. This has gone on so long now in car audio that 2000 watt amps are very nearly expendable. Especially those that only cost $103. How long before all manufacturers think like this and quality gets to the point where most everything has short life expectancy? Car audio was...and needs to be, more than just garbage products with big claimed output and immediate gratification. There should be some quality of investment.
