[QUOTE="thch, post: 1624510, member: 562032"] topic ideas: 1.) audibilty of odd things. absolute phase* -- does hooking up all of your speakers change the sound. critics say no -- all sources are still in phase with each other. proponents say yes -- the initial impact was recorded as a high pressure front, but was played as a low pressure front and the ear hears these differently. cables -- do cables matter. critics say typically no and that it is only the shinyness that makes the listener more inclided to hear only the good. proponents say yes, but it takes a high end system to notice. 2.) political issues Stereotypes against people with speakers. critics say that its all in how you use the speaker. proponents say the majority use high power systems irresponsibly. the StLouis thing might make a good focus. Stereotypes in marketing. Are certain groups targeted for audio. obviously yes (no one markets car audio to the 8-15 age group). what implications are there. Misrepresenting goods and the ethical conciderations. Critics say "i want money and you don't know any better". Proponents say it is akin to fraud. possibly cite the CEA2006 ratings system. 3.) Buzzwords. sometimes the content isn't as important as the topic... This might be a choice if you want to get into a technical university. Switch Mode Power Supplies -- anything. not really a thesis in itself. MOSFETS -- same as the SMPS topic. An alternative thesis topic might be MOSFETs vs BJTs for various apps. neither is universally superior. DSP in audio -- comment on the rise of digital processing in audio. make notes about advantages (consistency) and disadvtages (rounding noise). 48V car audio -- the new 48V standard will likely require class D amplifiers (or SMPS) to improve so an efficient amp can fit in the car and be used with the 4ohm speakers that exist in the market. *normal definition.
