Someone happens along and <em>really</em> wants to buy that widgit but Nood's reputation as an incredibly bad trading partner precedes him and the potential buyer is really unsure (understandably so) about doing business with him. In steps the 3rd party to hold the money until the buyer has received the widgit and has the opportunity to verify that it is exactly as advertised in the FS thread created for it and then, and only then, Nood would get paid for the widgit.</p><p></p><p>The proposed service plays no part in transactions beginning with established, ethical trading partners. As mentioned in the Ethical Traders Vs Pondscum Traders thread I made if you were to need some wiring/related accessories talk to FRITO. If you need some Rainbow components talk to 6spdcoupe. If you need an entry-level USAmps amplifier talk to flakko. Certainly those three are by far not the only honest sellers on the forum but I use those as examples that most people would already be familiar with even if they've never made a purchase from them (Of those three FRITO is the only one I have dealt with directly) My point is that you could safely assume that sending any of those gentlemen your money won't result in you getting screwed. A 3rd Party service would be a complete waste of time in those instances. Because of the nature of the creature known as "human," however, there will likely always remain those exceptions to the rule that an escrow kind of arrangement could be incredibly useful if for no other reason than peace of mind ~ which in some cases can be a priceless commodity.</p></blockquote><p></p>
