If a thief doesn't know what kind of alarm you have it's a little more difficult to bypass than if he knows the name of it because of your sticker. The common thief doesn't want to draw much attention and if he sees that you have an alarm he may move on to the next vehicle where as if there is no indication that you have an alarm, you could wind up with (at the least) a broken window until they see that the car is screaming.
