removable sound deading panels

Hey I want to add some sound deading to my car but I want to be able to pull it out and put it in another car when I get rid of this one...I was thinking about sticking it to some masonite or some other lightweight material instead of directly to the car...anyone every done this?

Nope. Won't work. Sound deadener is a pretty much permanent addition to the car. If you do manage to take it off, you sure as hell won't be able to use it again.

To work at all, deadener must be stuck to the panels of the car that are to be deadened. The deadener both adds mass, lowering the resonant freq of the panel and converts the energy from the flexing of the panel into heat rather than sound.

well if the deadener was physically held against the car so that it was touching then I cant see how it would matter if it was glued or just held in place ....my car is older and not worth the investment imo. and it would be nice to only have to buy it once even if its more expensive at first .its really just my rear deck and trunk floor that I want to do....both flat areas...not looking to do any odd shapes or anything....

it adhering to the metal is exactly what makes it work, just being next to it won't do you anygood. it can't stop the flexing if it isn't apart of whats flexing. but i kinda see what you are saying, give it a try and if it don't work you still will be able to take it with you on yoour next car.
