I was watching this show the other day and, basically it talked about these people who can actually map that kind of stuff using dna and they did find exactly what you just said--that there should be A LOT more people alive by now. Apparently, a long time ago, there was a ''super-volcano'' that erupted somewhere in East Asia. Basically, this thing was so huge that the cloud of smoke circled much of the globe, killing off, I forget how many people, but it seems like it was some huge number like 1/4 or 1/3 of the people and animals on Earth. The eruption coincided with the mass dip in the population....some food for thought.</blockquote>
