And you would be absolutely correct. Anyone stating that they are is equally just as wrong. There is no "best" when it comes to car audio. Certain brands and products outperform others in certain areas. That "niche", where that product falls, is what drives the sale. For JL, their niche is "one of the leaders in subwoofer/speaker engineering and innovation", and SQ that can also get pretty loud to most everyday folks. Not insanely loud, not knocking down walls at SPL or DB drags, but loud enough for the average joe and/or audiophile. In those respects, they excel. And again... The W cone may be 5-6 years old, but the design works the best the way it is. Had there been something to improve on it, they would have done it. Why would a company spend time, money and effort to come up with something for the sake of coming up with it to say "It's new" when it's not and won't improve on the design? Anyone that canot appreciate that fact and will dismiss JL products because of it, doesn't have an appreciation of the technology and the fact that it's the best it can be right now. It's withstood the test of time. There's nothing wrong in that thinking, hence why you are free to look else where for another brand. If you're not interested in any of those things that JL offers, and want a speaker that sound good TO YOU and/or loud TO YOU at a lower cost, then by all means go ahead. You wouldn't be anymore or less wrong than someone who wants what a JL sub offers. Are there things that an RE does better thana JL? Yes. Are there things that a JL does better than an RE. Yes. Each has their own set of features that distinguish them and bring different options to the table
