So I just bought an almost new kicker comp 12 inch 600w and a monsoon 600w amp off a friend for $175. He told me not to mess with the settings on the amp because they were already pretuned. Maybe he's right, but I'm not running high end speakers/HU like he was so there has to be some sort of adjusting to get the best sound quality. Here's some background. The settings on the amp are as follows. Level- MAX, Crossover- MIN, bass boost- almost max (10 out of 12db). This is my first subwoofer and amp and I have no idea what I should set those to (or if I should leave them like he says) and what I should set my HU to. I assume I can knock down the "low setting" on my HU, but what should I set the sub setting on my HU to? Would 10 be a little dangerous assuming the master volume would be pushing the distortion limits of my speakers? Thanks, sorry for ******* at this. edit- It might be important to note that with the current box the cone is only about 6 inches from the back of my trunk. The car is a convertable so the trunk is smaller. Could the backpressure damage the sub? It doesn't feel like much by touch but I'm sure the cone is a lot more sensitive than my hand.
