Ports and Daming !

My friend told me that there is no diff from a SEALED and a PORTED box exepct in competitions when they use sound measuring tools they will c that ported has a 3dB Higher SPL level , but with a normal human ear its very VERY hard to hear the diff and we cannot hear the diff between a sealed and a ported enclosure.

and the other thing that damping stuff like Dynamat and other things wont make a diff , only in cheap cars(Kia/Hyundai..etc) or emmmm old cars that have rattling noises .

ok first off the technical explaination. the db scale is logrithmic, so lets say that sealed enclsure hits 140 and the ported hits 143.....that is 14.0 amd 14.3 bals, by raising 10 to those powers and dividing the smaller answer into the larger, we get "how many times louder it is" which means 10^14.3 / 10 ^ 14.0 = 2.00 times louder (aprox). So if your ears can not tell the difference between a sound that is twice as loud and the original, you need a heard aide!!. Secondly I actully find that more expensive cars rattle more, thay have more "stuff" in them to rattle, and no car is intended to not vibrate when we put insaine systems in them (thats just my personal opinion, dont know if it can be back up with facts or not). Dampening does help, and quite a bit, just tell him he is an idiot and should come on here so we can flame him like hell.

sound deadener makes a huge difference, in any car.....it kills roadnoise....and most rattling/vibrations....if it makes no difference than why would SQ guys use it....Sq systems don't have ear shattering bass....it makes a world of difference
