This is just another example of what happens when guys in board rooms decide that making money is more important than all else. And this is why Orion is not what it used to be. I am not saying that Orion is crap, but I am saying that they need to make some changes and look to the past for some insight.
Well I am going to put in my .02 here. I used to be a loyal Orion fan back from 99-2001. Right around the point when ADS bought them. At the time the HCCA sub was the best you could buy. Not only did it sound very good at all power levels it would get very loud in a hurry. Also during that time ADS and orion worked on the HCCA components, and other things that really elevated Orion's mids and highs. Don't get me wrong the old NT componets were very good but with ADS's input the HCCA were very very clear and sounded very good. Then it seemed that they took a huge turn for the worse. The reworked H2 is nothing in comparison with the old HCCA subs and the amps and subs have taken a large turn for the worse in build quality. I used to know some techs and engineers who worked for Orion and they were totally committed to making the best products around, but just like everything else it came down to dollars and cents. Less money for engineering and design, looser tollerances on all equipment(to make manufacturing cheaper) and so on. Not long after these changes were made some very very good people left Orion and went to greener pastures. Now they are not one of the elite brands of equipment(in my opinion). The older HCCA amps and such are some of the best stuff that you could buy and there are some old HCCA amps that could still kick the snot out of stuff made today. This is just another example of what happens when guys in board rooms decide that making money is more important than all else. And this is why Orion is not what it used to be. I am not saying that Orion is crap, but I am saying that they need to make some changes and look to the past for some insight.
