As far as which is a lower distortion driver, that's obvious: The W7. It's not even debatable. It's definitely the more accurate driver. Which will people like more? That's a much different question. It doesn't take a great deal of design scrutiny to realize why the 9500 is a higher distortion driver though. "I heard jim-bob's MTX 9500 setup and it bumped good, but joe's w7 setup didn't bump as hard, so therefore the MTX 9500 is good and the W7 is bad." This isn't the sort of logic or reason that intelligent people use. You don't base which is actually the more capable driver on some random installs that you heard. You must eliminate all other factors but the drivers to even make an accurate listening comparison, and again, that's still a fairly subjective test. If you compare objective measures, the W7 wins across the board. Higher Xmax, higher Xsus, lower distortion, etc. Lastly, if you think that the only reason someone might think the W7 is a better woofer is because they are "JL fanboys", or something similar idiotic stereotype of equally deficient logic, then I don't even know that you'd understand the explanation in the first place. Objective analysis gives you only one conclusion as to the superior driver for musical performance: The W7. Does it tell you which one Jim Bob likes best? Nope.
