[QUOTE="bugflipper, post: 7575778, member: 621756"] The older the car the less amperage the alternator has. In turn the less wattage it can support. As a general guide late 80's to early 90's are 40-95 amp alts. 90's to early 00's are 75-100 amps. 00's to 12's are 85-140 amps. The more amps you have available, the larger you can go with wattage. You need to do the big 3 which should be a sticky over on the electrical forum. It's just 1/0 wires replacing the positive from alt to battery and 2, 1/0 wires for grounding. If your alt will not do what you need then you have to upgrade to one that will. In some cases if you are borderline adding a second battery is enough. Generally most cars can handle 1000 watts. Though with a lower amperage alt a second battery would be needed. Newer cars can generally get into 1500-2000 watts with a second battery. I am going about 1900 on big 3 and 120 amp alt. I have the second battery hardware installed and have to pick up the battery tomorrow. If I listened to rap I would most likely need a 180 amp alt as well. So in other words there are a lot of variables, but when you find out what amp alt you have most likely someone here can tell you what you need to achieve your goals. Or where to stay if you want to remain stock. He still hand makes his subs. They are pretty good subs, not real popular, but the guys that run them on here in their cars always have good things to say about them.
