Hey guys, heres a typical "what amp?" thread. Tonight I hooked up a MTX 7512A in a Sledgehammer box to a 1000W sony amp, which is supposed to produce 400 watts rms x 1 at 4 ohms, exactly what the sub needs. BUT, the sub seems to be underpowered unless the gain on the amp is maxed out (wouldnt that burn the amp out over time?) The sub sounds kinda loose and flimsy when at a high level, it should kick a lot harder too. Me and my buddies came to conclusion that the sony amp is a pile of ****. Heres some other amps i looked at: Kenwood KAC-7202 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-um38DvGafA0/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=613KAC7202 Pioneer GM-5200T http://www.crutchfield.com/S-um38DvGafA0/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=130GM5200T Rockford Fosgate Punch P4002 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-um38DvGafA0/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=575P4002 The Kenwood seems like an awesome deal there, and good power, just slight overpowering the sub. What would you guys recommend for the 7500 to properly utilize it? Thanks a bunch! P.S. everything was wired with 4 gauge wire, no capacitor, but headlights do not dim so im assuming that so far i have enough power. Also, im on a budget, id like to spend no more than $200 on the amp :o
