So a month or 2 ago, my aftermarket 200AMP alternator for a 3.1L 96' Pontiac Grand Am stopped working. I checked all my wiring and couldn't find any loose connections etc. So I put in my old OEM alternator I had laying around and BOOM, it worked just as it should sitting at 14.4. So I sent my alternator into Mechman so they could have a look at what was wrong. They said nothing was wrong and they bench tested it. I don't believe they actually took it a part or anything to double check. So then I just figured it was a fluke and I had them send it back to me. Unfortunately they did not follow their warranty policy and made me pay for shipping (I got over that). Anyways, got it back and it worked when I put it back in. Then yesterday after it had worked for about 2 weeks or so, it crapped out again. So I checked every wire I could, and nothing was bad. So I put in the old OEM alternator and once again BOOM, it worked just fine. The Mechman alternator is also very rough while spinning, it is not smooth like my OEM one. What do you guys think is the problem here? Do you think it could be a wiring harness problem or something. I am going to get the alternator bench tested tomorrow at Autozone to see if it is functioning properly or not.
