Well today i was bored at work so I decided to take on the challenge of rebassing some music. I did a quick search and found a software called Audacity and decided to give it a try First thing I learned, Its nearly impossible to do this without any real feedback, I did these on my laptop so i couldnt hear the bass during playback so i had to guess what tones to use and where exactly to put them. Second thing, I should have paid more attention to the level of the tones being introduced, i had assumed that the software would limit at a 0db tone but i realized after i finished that it would reach clipping point 2-3 volume notches sooner than any clean tracks I usually play. Third thing, Speaker phase is incredibly important to make smooth music. I hadn't thought about it much and then I realized after i finished that it would be a large deal. The cone wants to jump from the top of a wave straight to the middle similar to a clipped wave and it creates a noticeable pop in the sound. Final thoughts, This was a fun little experience to do while i had time to kill at work, it only took me around 20 minutes to guess my way through a 2 minute song. I think my choosing of tones was decent for not being able to listen to them with the music. I think with a proper soundstage to finesse the choices and timings of the beats and i could properly enjoy it. I recommend everyone tries this atleast one time, it left me with a greater appreciation of the professionals in the feild of custom rebassing.
