You set your gain and the knob will let you lower and raise it to a certain extent but its not a gain knob. Your amp gain is set and the knob wont (shouldnt) let you exceed you amps gain setting. Basically you can lower your gain not raise it from the knob.EDIT: I should add when I set my gains I put the "Bass knob" all the way up, then set my gains,  and during normal listening my knob is only about a quarter of the way up. This works well for me. If I want more bass I turn it up some and I know Im still safe since my knob all the way up would be correct gain setting.</blockquote>
