[QUOTE="newusername, post: 4682000, member: 562064"] I'll put Barack Obama to the side for a moment and just look at Jesse Jackson. Honestly, he is human, and that means he is more than likely dumb. Here you have a gentleman who has run for the Democratic nomination twice and did not succeed, yet he sees fit to tell the first legitimate black Presidential candidate how to be a Presidential nominee. What did Jackson criticize? Of all things, he criticized Obama's largely positive emphasis on responsibility and personal accountability. Why does Jackson oppose this? Mostly because it is the exact opposite of what he has built a career on. Jesse Jackson has made a living out of talking about the racial separation that exists in the US; he does not, and has never, made any real efforts to minimize these separations. Where Obama has encouraged black communities to, more or less, do their best in the future regardless of the situation, Jackson prefers to focus on what has happened in the past. Obviously there are large divisions between black and white groups (most of which is driven by poverty and a division in class). Still, I think everyone can agree that the best way to solve these problems is to work on a solution for the future, rather than lambasting past discrepancies on TV so that you can earn a rather healthy paycheque. Jesse Jackson is blatantly racist (Hymietown, anyone?) and for him to comment on Obama's policies on race relations is ludicrous. If Jackson even remotely cared about the history that Obama is making, he would have kept his mouth shut. For whatever reason, he thinks what he said is more acceptable because he didn't know the mic was on.
