Message: <blockquote data-quote="helotaxi" data-source="post: 1608280" data-attributes="member: 550915"><p>Depending on how badly the amp is clipping, you don't need to be feeding the sub more than its rated power to cook it.  Power handling is figured assuming that the sub is being fed AC only and is moving accordingly.  With a fully clipped signal, the sub is getting DC (bad) and isn't moving normally (worse).  The result is that a small amount of power can quickly surpass the thermal limits of the sub.</p></blockquote><p></p>
