Couldn't find what I was looking for. I bought a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB deck and installed it and when the radio is playing I get a ticking sound that's sounds like the plugs firing over the speakers. This don't do it on all stations but most. I don't have an amp hooked up. I tried to ground the unit to the fire wall and so on and to no avail. The ticking sound is still there. Even tried hooking the 12V wire to the car battery and still no dice. .

I tried to get help from my Dakota forum and they tried to help but I figure I come here and see what you all can suggest.

Try disconnecting the HU and plug an iPod or other MP3 player directly into the amp. See if you still get the noise. If so, it is not the HU. If you don't get the noise, try another HU and see if it still picks up the sound. If both HU make the same noise, try to disconnect the ant wire.

there is no amp hooked up. all stock except for the head unit. I disconnect the ant at the HU and it stops. I hook my sansa fuse to the usb port and it dont make the ticking sound. only on the tuner and some stations dont have the ticking sound.

I even put a wire down the ant plug on the HU and that even picks up the ticking.

Make sure the ANT is grounded well somewhere. Also, try the radio with the engine off. It is likely noise coming from the alt or spark plugs. Some people have been known to replace their spark plug wires to resolve this issue.

WHen the engine is off the ticking stops. I have Coil over plugs so no spark plug wires.

How do I ground the ant? Take another wire and ground it from the ant to the body?

when I had my stock radio in never had this problem.

ok took off the passenger side kick panel and found the ant wire going through the frame when I untwisted the wire the ticking sound went away. but when I moved the wire again. the ticking came back. I guess the ant wire is pluged in sections for easy replacement. so will see how much it cost to replace but might go to a junk yard and see if I cant get lucky.

thanks for all your help.

I took the radio back to crutchfields and they let me try another one and all the problems are solved. they said something in the radio musta not been grounded properly. Now I can pick up a lot more stations. Again thanks for all of your help.
