there have been MANY books dedicated to the aforementioned case. all of said books reach the same conclusion after extensive research: the money invested in the "war on drugs" IE: prosecuting criminals, keeping these criminals in jail, paying for the tools and human resources to fight this "war on drus" is an astronomical figure. There is no rational explanation for the amount of money spent considering it is such an ineffective program. The former head of the DEA was once quoted as saying that he was happy catching 1 out of every 100 drug dealers, because it makes the other 99 think twice about what they're doing. If we still have a "drug problem" despite all the money spent to fight it.... theres a bigger problem - the rationale behind it. Pot may never be legalized for any reason, but every argument I've heard for the legalization of pot has been sound and intelligent. The arguments provided by those who demonize pot have been less than compelling, and often are based on a vague arbitrary morality. With that said, I havent smoked pot more than 3 times in the past 2 years. I dont smoke pot because I dont like it, not because somebody told me it was wrong. Everyone needs to come to their own conclusion, but one must ask: is it a conclusion drawn by the government, or by one's own personal knowledge?
