Hi everyone! I'm new here, but have frequented other message boards for years. I figured I would make a "hello" thread w/ a few facts about what I've got going wrt car audio (that's why we're here, right? ). First off, I drive a 2002 Mazda Tribute. I had a decent system that I installed myself a couple years ago consisting of a Panasonic HU, kicker components, kicker coaxials, 2 kicker 10" cvr's, 2 kicker amps (one for subs, one for mid/high), w/ a 1 farad capacitor. BUT, one fateful night, almost all of that was stolen out of my car. They didn't bother w/ the door speakers, but they took the head unit, amps, and subs. I had been riding around w/ a hole in my dash for over a year. Well, I just got a Best Buy (I know, I know) gift card from my parents for my birthday this week. So, I decided to use it to help rebuild a semi-decent system. I normally would NEVER buy anything at best buy, unless something is on "can't pass it up" sale. But, given that I have "free" money to blow there, I'm going to try to get them for all they are worth. I've already bought and installed a new Alpine CDA-9883 head unit. It sounds awesome powering my kicker components and coaxials. It lacks the bass at higher volumes that I'm used to, but if I didn't know any better, I would be satisfied. Now, I'm in the process of purchasing and installing a sub and amp. I can't have 2 subs anymore... I've got a new baby boy and a big boxer dog I have to tote around, so I need some room in the back. So, I'm sticking w/ single 12" in a small sealed enclosure. I just ordered a 12" Infinity Kappa 124.7w sub and a 1.0^3 sealed q-logic box (QLH-1.0012SS). I got an insane deal on the combo... I got the sub on sale for $120, plus I got the box 40% off (for buying it w/ a sub), PLUS a quick google search found a $15 off $150 purchase... not to mention FREE shipping. So, I got the Kappa and the box shipped for ~$150. That's crazy! I've decided to put some of the gift card to good use and get the Alpine MRP-M450 mono amp to power the sub. It should match up well. I contemplated an Alpine Type-R or RF P3 sub (trying to use the gift card), but felt they would be underpowered by the m450. I'm pumped that I came across the Kappa deal, even though it was an out of pocket purchase. I would have had to spend $300+ at best buy on a good sub and box. So, the finished system will look like this... Head Unit: Alpine CDA-9883 Front mid/high: Kicker 5x7 component (forgot model #) Rear mid/high: Kicker 5x7 coax (fogot model #) Subwoofer: 12" Infinity Kappa 124.7w Sub amp: Alpine MRP-M450 I had the kicker 5x7s amped before, but don't quite have the cash flow to get another amp right now. But, they sound pretty good off the head unit, especially when I turn on the HP x-over and eliminate So, there's a little summary on me and what I'm doing. I've been into car audio since I was 16 (1996). A little history... 1996 - '93 Grand Prix - Alpine 6x9, 2 Pioneer 12" subs, kenwood mono amp 1997 - '93 Camaro - Kenwood HU, 2 12" mtx subs, 2 Orion Cobalt amps, 2 pair Orion 6" coaxials 1998 - '95 Monte Carlo - Alpine 4-1/2s, 12" O2 audio sub, 2 Orion Cobalt amps 2000 - '95 Grand Cherokee - Pioneer HU, JL 15" w3 (blew it), 2 12" mtx subs in bandpass, 2 Orion Cobalt amp, 5" Jensen (hahaha) door speakers.
