Been running HD's for around a year now and recently swapped in a set of HDC's. Picked them up blown for a good price and slapped on fresh recones. Was my first time doing that and I must say it was very easy. Other then getting the old glue off the surrounds Per AQ's instructions I broke them in for about 12 hours. Low to Med volumes, nothing with real low bass. Gave me a chance to see how the SQ compared to the HD's. Remote gain is set up so that 12 is full tilt, so I varied between 4 and 6 for the break in period. Played a lot of metal with fast kick drums and they sound quite accurate with nice punch and kept up no problem. Some of the death metal stuff is insanely fast and they never seemed to miss a beat. I ran RL-P's before the HD's and they played very accurately, but I found the sound almost dry or lacking impact at times. Also did some blues and jazz stuff with an actual upright string bass and the notes sounded like they should and blended well with the rest of the instruments. Did some 80's R&B and hip hop, the stuff with the old school clean bass beats in them. Sounded **** good, tight and clean with nice punch on the harder beats. When dialed back you could easily mistake them for a pair of 10's output wise. They add just enough bass to compliment my front stage, and the bass comes from the front as it should. Tonight I finally got a chance to lean on them. Each sub is powered by a pair of SAZ 1500D's strapped at 2ohms, so around 3k per sub. Played some metal full tilt and the kick drums smack you in the chest. No more bass from the front as the back of the seat feels like someone is kicking it and makes you VERY aware of the beasts behind you. Hard to tell by ear if they're louder then the HD's, especially since I haven't heard anything loud in over a week while breaking them in.
