fleece wrapping

All of the fiberglass work ive done before has never involved wrapping the part in fleece so im a bit new to the whole fleece wrapping thing and tend to be having a lot of trouble with it. Any tips on how to do this a bit easier? It seems like the fleece is never pulled tight enough or has little ripples in it. Thanks.

get an air powered or electric staple gun, and staple the **** out of one side, like a continuos line of staples, then pull it over and staple the **** out of it all the way around, and on the other side, just keep pulling

good to have two people for fleece pulling, at least to hold the project down, if nothing else.

What mike says is pretty much the way I do it. But if you still have trouble try using some lycra based material. Lycra is sold at walmart as Swimsuit material. I pick some up per dbornotdb's suggestion. And the stuff works great. It's much easier to stretch evenly over skeleton frames and such. Sound good. Ill prolly have to use hot glue instead of staples/nails though as my actual "base" is fiberglass.

I actually woudl suggest you use grill cloth, it is much more forgiving than fleece, also it's fairly cheap from places like partsexpress.com and sometimes a local shop might sell it.

Also something that might help is get your frame ready and use a little 3M Super77 on the sub ring and lay your cloth over and start from the middle and work your way out to the corners... the stretch in thinner materials will help with wrinkles and overlap... you acn usually keep pulling until you get the mass of cloth past a corner or edge.

As mikescanlon said above a electric staplegun is good and a pneumatic nail gun is better... even a cheap one will do the job.

i agree on other materials than fleece are better.

resin is usually polyester derived.. so i use polyester dress-making material, works great for small things.. fleece is best for like a sub enclosure though.

I used hot glue. Turned last nights hours of frustration trying to wrap that thing into 10 minutes of art making.

I used to use fleece all the time for anything larger than kicks. Now I don't know anymore. I tried the trunk liner idea from dbornotdb. And it worked quite well actually. I built an 3.5 cuft ported enclosure for a single fosgate T2 12" using the trunk liner material and a single layer of Oz. stitched biaxial. It's powered by a bd1000 and the glass doesn't flex. The panel has an arc shape to it. I know this added to the strength as well. oops forgot, good point about the polyester resin. Always check just to make sure, as epoxies will react differently to some materials than polyester will. Polyester is the cheaper variety of resin most of the time. Therefore it's more widely carried by autoparts stores and such. If you get your resin from a marine supplier you need to pay close attention. speaker grille carpet is too thin and the resin will j ust drip right through it too easily. i'd use fleece. or if you are doing a big project i'd use speaker box carpet.
