As some of you know, I recently received a 12" Fi Q compliments of nick and the guys over at Fi. Well, today is the day that I finally got to unbox and test this little fugger out. First some comparison shots versus the 12's I already have DD 9512F, HD3 12", Q 12" You can see my 9515F hanging out in the background. Now by no means is this a high-power sub designed for SPL use, but I would be doing myself and others an injustice by not at least trying it out for SPL use. Anyways, here's the numbers I came up with. Outlaw: 152.3 @ 41 hz Headrest: 151.0 @ 41 hz The Q ran out of steam mechanically before I could thermally hurt it, not really a surprise since this is an SQ oriented sub and I'm an SPL nut. Overall, took the power pretty well and sounds pretty darn good to boot, even in my peaky SPL enclosure. WAY WAY less mechanical noise than the 9512, but obviously not as loud. The DD in this box and the same power is only about 1 dB louder in both spots. Not surprising since it's designed to handle way more power, has 5 spiders, weighs 20 pounds more, and costs $150-200 more than a Q (for a used 9512). Also, I'm sure if I could throw more power at the Q it would gain in score. The HD3 is about .5-7 dB louder than the Q. Both the DD and AQ get louder as more power is added though, which I couldn't do with the Q. Overall, very very impressed with the little bugger. Makes me want to try out a BL or two.
