Today I was installing trying to install this into my mazda 121: https://www.fusionentertainment.com/car/products/active-enclosures-cp-series/cp-8-super-slim-active-subwoofer After wiring up everything, I double checked to ensure everything is correct before switching on. 1) Coaxials to input. Check 2) Remote wire connected and live when car on. Check and confirmed with multimeter. 3) Power cable live. Check. 12V car off, 14.5V car on 4) GND cable properly connected to chassis. Check 5) Fuses next to battery, and fuses inside amp. Check 6) Dials on subwoofer, level in particular, set at 1/3. Check I then tried playing a song. The 'power' LED on the subwoofer was on, but no sound was coming from it. I had my hand close to where the cables are connected and it was very slightly warm. Continue trying to no avail. Then after about 15 minutes of checking wires, I smell burning and the power LED switches off never to turn on again. Here's the best part, I had removed it from under the seat to check what the problem could possibly be and it was sitting on carpet. When I went to return it after it apparently blew itself so I can show SCA tomorrow that it was infact installed correctly, sparks started flying everywhere. For some reason, the mounting points of the subwoofer were now positively charged. It was literally short circuiting my battery. Needless to say, it's seperated from the battery now. I don't know why, but the fuse next to the battery survived, and so did the fuses inside the amplifier itself. This is my first installation and I was relying on a ton of videos on the internet to get through the steep learning curve so any advice appreciated. What initially had me thinking was a simple fault now has me thinking that the unit was a fire hazard and could possibly have at least damaged the battery, is this common when amps fail? Would anyone have any idea why it failed? Images: Faulty Amp - Album on Imgur
