In a 97 Explorer what are the dimensions?.. width x height x depth... use your window line/seatback height as the height and the approximate port width with to get your depth and leave clearance to the tailgate... if for example you have 30 inches depth and have a 4" wide port you will have 26" max available... if  the math is too much you may consider asking someone to do this... if so you might as well have someone model these and design a box...
