A kid i know from school dropped by at a party i had yesterday. He had a pretty loud system, so i was curious to see what he had in there. Well, i went and took a look, and it was actually perdy decent. Pioneer 980 headunit, components up front on a 2ch amp, and a JL w7 in a ported box built to JL's specs. Im not gonna lie, it sounded great. So, i asked to take a look at the actual equipment , so i jumped out o fthe truck and swung the back door open to take a peak. First off, the wires were all in a jumble, just everywhere (which i guess is kinda typical). I took a look at his ground wires for his amps, and each amp had about 3 8guage wires fed to each ground terminal, making a total of 6 (might of been 7). He ran these wires down through a drilled hole where the chassis of the car touched the frame. this is where it gets interesting. I take a look at his ground connection. It was touching both frame and chassis (which touched each other anyways). But, not only was the grounding spot NOT sanded down, but there was no terminal on the end of these combined 7 wires, or anything holding the ground to the chassis/frame. the wires were literally RESTING in the hole he drilled. I turned around and asked him to clarify that i was not seeing things, and he just says "yeah, it works...." then pulls the wires out, with his car on, and everything makes a loud "whoomp" sound. He then shows me the wires, and proceeds to put them back into there little hole, and the amps turn back on. I didnt know what to do, so i just closed the door and walked away.
