It certainly was a value in the past. value - a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life People behaved with racism as a standard of behavior. People considered racism to be important in life. And we're not talking just individuals. It was a societal norm. No denying that. Some people do it, some don't. Not my concern, unless they are hypocrites and demand others respect the vow while they are out banging their wife's brother or sister. Everyone should do this. But the right doesn't even want kids to respect themselves. Why would they respect someone else? Maybe he was, but the numbers would show he might be focused on the wrong things. As a percentage of population, the people who you describe as a "drain on society" has only gone up about 2% in the past 45 years. Not terrible, considering the shift of wealth in the US in that same 45 year span. In 1980, the top 5% controlled 20% of the nation's wealth. Today, the top 5% control 35%. In other words, the poor are getting poorer. And the wealthy make sure of that. They create the "drains on society" that they love to hate.
