I just posted this on a computer forum, so i'm just cutting and pasting my whole thing. Maybe one of you guys will have an idea on whats going on: __________________________________________ Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with my computer and im hoping some of you computer guru's could help me track down the culprit. I dont know a TON about computers, but i'll understand most of the lingo i think A friend of mine built me a computer and i've been having a few issues: 1)i get the blue screen of death very randomly, but not often. It just happens every few weeks or couple months or whenever it wants, really. 2) I seem to be having corrupt downloads Okay, for the bluescreening. Im not quite sure whats causing it. When the blue screen pops up, it lists the file thats causing the problems. I dont remember the exact name of the file off of the top of my head, but its a graphics card driver file. I plan on updating all my drivers this weekend to see if that helps. One thing that has me confused is i have an ABIT motherboard with a built in firewall. When i turn the firewall off, it seems that the bluescreen doesnt appear as much. The motherboard doesnt have an integrated graphics card though, so im not sure why that would cause any conflict. Due to the randomness of the bluescreen, it may be coincidence, but i do feel like it happens less with the firewall off. And as for the corrupt downloads, im not sure what the deal there is either. For example, when i try to watch a movie on youtube, occasionally/somewhat often, i will only be able to watch a portion of the movie because the stream gets corrupted. The same thing happens when downloading music (if i download a song, every once in a while a downloaded song will have a little burp in it, like i was playing a scratched CD). Downloaded setup files are corrupted sometimes too. I thought it may have been my harddrive, but I've never had any problems installing files off of a disc. And if i download a file from another computer and put it into my computer ( a song, for example), there is no corruption issues. So far, the only things i can think of are a) needing to update driver files to get rid of a conflict, b)my motherboard may be toast , or c) my internet browser may be causing issues (i only use firefox, i havent tested if the problem happens on IE yet) Any input would be great! _______________________________________
