I have been out of the aftermarket car audio market for 30 years. I now find myself very interested in getting back into it and am upgrading my car audio system. I am a big fan of the old school Eclipse product line, so I started my upgrade with the purchase of a couple of Eclipse head units...a CD8051 and CD8454. I am not sure, as of yet, as to which one will get the installation. I, also, just purchased an Eclipse 8042 component set of speakers. These include 4.5" (2) midrange drivers and (2) 3/4" soft dome tweeters. This set also includes passive crossovers. I'll probably put the midrange drivers in the doors and the tweeters will probably on the dash, in the corners. Not sure exactly on where the position of the tweeters will be. I currently have Infinity Kappa speakers (not sure of the exact model, although) in the doors of my '91 Accord and Eclipse 6x9s in back. I do not have a sub and am not sure I want one. I am not a big fan of the big bass sound and am afraid if I get a sub it will drown out the mids and highs. Well, drown out may be a bit of exaggeration but I don't want my music to be defined by the bass. I was thinking of getting one of those little 8" under-the-seat powered subs, but I don't think the seats in my Accord have the space for that solution. I am okay with the bass output from my system...for the most part. But, there are times I wish I had a bit more punch. But, subwoofer issue put aside, my question is: With no woofers in the Eclipse component set I purchased, will I be getting noticeably less bass than I am currently getting? And, will the Eclipse components up front be a considerable overall improvement over the Kappas I have in the doors? Oh, and one more question, just for the heck of it: If I replace my Eclipse 6x9s, what would be some good recommendations? Thanks gentlemen and ladies for all the support you have given me and for future advice.
